"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance; but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire." Matthew 3:11. Just like water baptism, baptism of the Holy Spirit is a very important part of our salvation. When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we are gradually filled with his spirit. The Holy Spirit is not a force of energy or power, but the Holy Spirit is God. He has a will and a mind of infinite knowledge. He is a person who can not lie and will always speak truthfully. He is our comforter who keeps us encouraged and ministers healing and deliverance to our souls in times of despair. He is the Spirit of the Lord who gives us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to know him for ourselves. Baptism in the Holy Spirit is the believer's inauguration into the operating powers of Jesus Christ.

These are some of the things that God's Holy Spirit does for his children:

.Brings about conviction
.Guides us to the truth
.Makes us brand new
.Glorifies Christ Jesus
.Reveals Christ in us
.Lead, guides, and protects
.Sanctifies and makes us whole
.Endows us with his power
.Fills is with his Spirit
.Teaches us how to pray
.Lets us know that we are his children
.Showers us with supernatural gifts

When we accept Christ into our lives, we are then born of his Spirit. We began to experience his works in our lives. It is the will of God that all believers be baptized in his spirit according to his Act 2:38-39. The Holy Spirit is given unto us as a gift. For it is promised to us. One of the manifestations of the gift of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues along with other gifts. These gift's enable us to perform and accomplish the task commissioned unto us. The purpose of the Holy Spirit is Manifold; meaning of many kinds, multi-purposed. The Holy Spirit wants to perform his works in our lives, but only if we submit ourselves to him and believe. His spirit exists so that men and women will become like Jesus. That should be our goal as a believer. The main purpose of the Holy is to give us power to demonstrate his divine power to win over souls to be saved. We must allow ourselves to be baptized in the spirit because the Holy Spirit can freely work in us. The Holy Spirit gives us power to cast out demons so that people can know that Jesus is the one and only true and living God. People will know that salvation is real and makes a great difference in our lives.

Speaking in tongues is speaking in languages unknown to the mind of the speaker, by the Power of the Holy Spirit. The speaker does not speak with his mind or understanding, but speaks with his spirit. The speaker is speaking to God at times. God gives the interpretation through the speaker. Remember that once you receive Christ as your personal Savior, you already have his spirit. When you continue to seek him and thirst after him, you will be filled with his spirit and it will be manifested in your life. You must repent, renounce the works of the enemy, thirst after him, walk in faith, drink of him, receive what he has to say, yield yourselves to him, and you shall be filled.
