Church of the Olive Branch was birthed by Pastor Mark Johnson, Sr. as a bible study held on Saturday mornings at the Nehemiah Co-Op Community Center in the heart of Columbia Heights in Washington, D.C. Pastor Johnson soon realized that Saturday was not a congenial day for bible study, but he did not stop there. God began to make the vision clearer to him. He knew that God wanted greater things for His people. God placed it on Pastor Johnson's heart to start Sunday Morning Worship and Wednesday night bible study. He spoke with Ms. Debbie Alston, former president of the Nehemiah Co-Op Condominiums about his vision and the use of the community center. Ms. Alston agreed with him and consulted with Board of Directors. They were all on one accord and made the decision to allow Pastor Johnson to use the building free of charge. God made the provision for Pastor Johnson's vision to manifest. Church of the Olive Branch's first service was held on October 3, 1999.

Pastor Johnson talked with his family and requested their involvement and interaction in sharing the vision that God had placed in his hands. Despite the first service only attended by him and his family, a total of six people, it did not weaken his faith in God or the ministry. After months of labor, the ministry began to prosper. The membership grew and packed out the Nehemiah Community Center. Souls were saved, bodies were healed and miracles took place at Church of the Olive Branch. Lives were literally changed under the anointing of Pastor Mark Johnson, Sr.

Church of the Olive Branch, under the leadership of Pastor Johnson, began an eager building fund. During that time, the church went through many transitions. The ministry relocated from Washington, D.C. to Capitol Heights, MD at the Health First Wellness & Fitness Center to hold their services. One year later, the ministry relocated to Meriedy Quality Daycare Center in Oxon Hill, MD. In November of 2006, the church purchased a mid-sized building in District Heights, MD. Due to various obstacles, county codes and regulations, the church was withheld from occupying and renovating the building.

After many disappointments, tests and trials, the ministry finally received their license to occupy the building. The ministry had to emphatically raise over seventy thousand dollars to renovate the building. They went into another building fund to raise the funds. After many months, the renovation project was completed. Church of the Olive Branch held their first service in their own worship facility on August 23, 2008. It was a glorious occasion and celebration for the Church of the Olive Branch. The Lord has tremendously grown Pastor Johnson and the Church of the Olive Branch in His grace and knowledge. We believe that God will manifest His promises in the body of Christ according to His will as we continue to be build His Kingdom. We believe that as we labor in His vineyard, His prophecy for this ministry is coming to past.
